INSTRUMENT MAN (INSTRUMENT OPERATOR)
Job Summary
We are seeking a reliable Instrument Man to support pipeline survey crews on ROW, alignment, and construction projects. This role involves physically demanding outdoor work in remote pipeline corridors.
This position requires extensive travel, long hours, and extended field deployments.
Requirements
• Must pass drug screening
• Valid driver’s license preferred
• Ability to work long hours and extended assignments
• Ability to perform physical field work in rough terrain and weather conditions
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Pipeline or construction experience preferred but not required
• Ability to follow safety procedures and crew direction
Key Responsibilities
• Assist with pipeline ROW, alignment, topographic, and construction surveys
• Operate GPS/GNSS and survey equipment under Party Chief direction
• Assist with centerline, offset, and construction staking
• Hold rods, prisms, and surveying equipment
• Support identification of crossings, valves, and pipeline features
• Set up, break down, and maintain survey equipment
• Maintain field notes and assist with sketches and documentation
• Assist with daily data collection and submission to office teams
• Work in active construction and remote ROW environments
• Clear survey lines as needed
• Follow pipeline safety procedures and ROW access requirements
• Participate in safety meetings and follow JSA/JHA protocols
Safety & PPE Requirements
• FR clothing required
• PPE includes hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toe boots, high-vis vest, gloves
• Compliance with pipeline safety rules and operator requirements
• Participation in daily safety briefings and weekly JSA/JHA processes

• Willingness to learn pipeline surveying practices
• Ability to follow direction in a crew environment
• Strong work ethic and reliability
• Attention to detail in field tasks and documentation
• Safety-conscious mindset in active construction zones
