PARTY CHIEF – PIPELINE SURVEYING

Job Summary


We are hiring an experienced Party Chief to lead survey crews supporting pipeline and energy infrastructure projects. This role oversees field operations for right-of-way (ROW), pipeline alignment, construction staking, and as-built surveys.


This position requires extensive travel, long hours, and extended field deployments in remote locations, often supporting active construction schedules.


Requirements


• 3+ years experience leading survey field crews
• Pipeline, ROW, or energy corridor surveying experience preferred
• Ability to work long hours and extended deployments
• Must pass drug screening
• Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work in varied terrain
• Compliance with pipeline operator safety requirements


Key Responsibilities


• Lead 2 person survey crew on pipeline ROW, alignment, topographic, boundary, and construction surveys
• Perform and oversee pipeline centerline, offset, and construction staking
• Operate GPS/GNSS, robotic total stations, and data collectors
• Interpret alignment sheets, construction drawings, and engineering plans
• Perform staking for pipelines including weld markers, bends, crossings, and facilities
• Verify field calculations, stationing, and survey data accuracy
• Maintain detailed field notes, sketches, and electronic survey records
• Submit daily field data deliverables (GPS files, notes, sketches, and reports)
• Coordinate with engineers, inspectors, and project managers
• Enforce safety compliance including pipeline ROW safety procedures
• Participate in daily safety meetings and weekly JSA/JHA reviews
• Clear survey lines in wooded or undeveloped ROW environments
• Work extended shifts, overtime, and multi-week field deployments


Safety & PPE Requirements


• FR clothing required at all times
• PPE includes hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toe boots, high-visibility vest, gloves
• Compliance with pipeline operator safety programs and ROW access rules
• Participation in safety briefings and weekly JSA/JHA documentation


Skills


• Strong knowledge of land surveying and pipeline corridor operations
• GPS/GNSS and robotic total station proficiency
• Ability to read and interpret alignment sheets and construction plans
• Strong leadership and crew management skills
• Ability to produce accurate field documentation and sketches
• Strong attention to detail in linear infrastructure layouts
• Ability to work in remote, high-demand field environments
